A pub since around 1840 this pub closed in 1999 and, earmarked for demolition, seemed destined to die, but re-opened on 5 August 2005 to become a real beer haven (or heaven). Began brewing their own beer in Ralph's Ruin brewery in the old pub kitchen Jun 2017. There are normally two or three maybe even four of their own beers together with an ever changing range of up to six guest beers from microbreweries, near and far, alongside an equally interesting range of ciders, perries and bottled British and Belgian beers. Regular tap takeovers. Frequent live music including open-mic nights, Swing jazz first Sunday of each month, Breton folk/Blues jam/songwriting circle on Mondays, folk music sessions on Wednesdays (mainly Irish folk) and live music every Friday and sometimes Thursday and/or Saturdays too. Pizza truck on Wednesdays (from Mar 2025). Popular with home and away supporters when nearby Bath City are at home. Thriving pub cricket team. Outside is a secluded terrace and small on-site car park. No wifi (conversation encouraged). Ralph is the pub dog Bath & Borders CAMRA City and Overall Pub of the Year 2020 and 2025, Cider Poty 2023
